Summer 2017: Makeup Trend Series

P1010835.JPG

Now I’m back off holiday, finished college, and only doing a few days at work a week, I’ve decided to create a makeup series as I have quite a lot more time on my hands! In this series, I will be researching different trends from different years, era’s and influences to create different looks. For today’s trend, I went with Summer 2017. I found A LOT of inspiration from Cosmopolitan’s article the recently posted called “Spring/Summer 2017 Hair and Makeup Trends”. This article lists a number of different trends taken from Fashion Week. I took a few trends from their list a created a whole look featuring them! Hope you enjoy this series, be sure to comment what trend you would like to see next!

Graphic Liner and Glitter Lips

This trend was influenced by Fendi at Milan Fashion week. All the models on the catwalk for the SS17 catwalk wore a bold graphic liner, and a sparkly, glitter lip.

Blugirl used a wash of orange eyeshadow on all her models to create this colourful, sunset eye look.

I teamed this look up with a Topknot and two plaits. Topknots are in trend this summer, according to Cosmopolitan’s Article, as Christian Dior had his models sport the slick, “ballerina” hairstyle. I attempted to channel my inner Bohemian, by adding to plaits, inspired by  Missoni.

True Love in Turkey

So yesterday I came back from my holiday in Antalya, Turkey with my boyfriend (who is now myIMG_6751 fiancé) , which is the reason to why I haven’t posted anything in well over a week! I hadn’t been on a relaxing holiday since 2014, so it was so lovely to just kick back and sit around doing  absolutely nothing for the whole week! It’s been just over 24 hours since I got back home, and I already have serious holiday blues! Its 18° where I live at the minute, and where I stopped in Turkey it didn’t go bellow 32°, so its safe to say that I am a little bit chilly! I was a little skeptical about going to Turkey as I had never been before, however, it is honestly such a beautiful place! We stayed in Hotel Baia Lara, a 5 star all inclusive resort, and it was AMAZING! However, the temperatures were so high, you couldn’t walk on the sand because it was THAT hot, ouch!

Our first day of the holiday was one to remember. This is because my boyfriend had planed to propose to me me! Don’t think I’ve ever cried so much in my life. He took me down the beach for a walk after dinner, and it was so perfect, and I couldn’t be happier!

1The sea was so clear, it was like being in the Caribbean! We spent most of our days lying around the pool, drinking beers and cocktails, and having the occasional nap on the sun loungers! My breakfasts consisted of pancakes and a croissant with chocolate sauce and my lunches consisted of pizza, pretty much everyday. But who wouldn’t want pizza everyday for lunch, right? They had a little outdoor restaurant where they made them, and I must say, they are probably the best pizza’s I’ve ever had!

Unfortunately, the other days of the holiday were not as as good as the first day, IMG_6735
for obvious reasons, however, we did have an absolutely amazing week! By far one of the best holiday’s I’ve every been on! The food was amazing, our room was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the resort itself was faultless! We had the best time EVER… until we got to the airport to fly home. Our transfer coach picked us up from our hotel at 11:50 pm, then we got to the airport 20-30 minutes later. We went into the airport to look for our flights on the departure boards, however, we were confused to see that our flight weren’t displayed. Another lady, who was on the same flight as us, informed us that the reason to this was because not only was our flight IMG_6733delayed, but we were also being flown to the wrong airport. Were suppose to be flying to Birmingham, but instead we had to fly to Manchester because of “technical issues”. So our 2:20 am Flight to Birmingham Airport had turned into a 6:40 am Flight to Manchester! Meaning we had to wait for 4 hours and 20 minutes for our flight! It was such a long, tiring wait, but it was such a relief to finally get home! But apart from all the airport drama, we had the best week of our lives, such an amazing holiday filled with memories we’ll treasure forever.

New Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks from the Summer Chrome Collection

So last night I decided to treat myself to a few of the new Jeffree Star Liquid Lipsticks from his new Summer Chrome Collection from Beauty Bay. Was so excited for them to arrive this morning, as I got free Next  Day Delivery for spending over £40 (winner!). I chose the shades; Butt Naked, Candyass and Flamboyant, as I have nothing like these shades in my collection at the minute.

Left to Right; Butt Naked, Candyass and Flamboyant.

Here are the swatches I did with the shades. Butt Naked went on like a dream, this shade is very opaque and doesn’t require layering at all! It dried down super quickly as well. However, Candyass and Flamboyant took a lot of layering to reach full opacity. The 2 metallic shades in this collection (Candyass and Flamboyant) have a strawberry scent (almost smells like strawberry laces). With the Jeffree Star Liquid lipsticks, I do find that the metallic finishes are not as opaque as the others finishes and do require 2/3 layers. I have the shades Pussy Whipped and No Tea No Shade and find that these are very sheers well, as they have a metallic finish (No Tea, No Shade isn’t as sheer as the others as it is a darker shade, however, it does require a second layer). Even though both metallic shades are quite sheer, they are such beautiful colours when they reach full opacity! Flamboyant is my favorite shade, I’ll be definitely be taking it on holiday with me this weekend!

Butt Naked

Butt Naked is a warm peachy nude with a matte finish. This shade would look stunning on anyone who has very fair skin!

P1010800.JPG

Applying this lipstick too A LOT of work. Even though this shade is super opaque, this shade was very streak, so therefore required to go over certain areas to smooth out the streaks. Other than that, this shade is BEAUTIFUL! Super natural, perfect for everyday makeup, and is so comfortable to wear, doesn’t feel dry at all!

P1010819.JPG

Candyass

Candyass is a coral pink shade that has a tone of gold reflex, with a metallic finish. I feel anyone could full with shade off, no matter what your skin tone is! This shade is definitely for everyone!

P1010807.JPG

As I mention in the swatches, this shade is quite sheer, and therefor require at least 2-3 layers. This shade felt very comfortable on the lips and didn’t feel drying at all! Once the colour had been built up, I fell in LOVE! This shade would be perfect for any prom or bridal makeup to add a bit of sparkly to your look!

P1010821

Flamboyant

Flamboyant is bright metallic coral/red shade with chunky gold reflex. This colour definitely will make a statement! Would look stunning on darker skin tones, and anyone will a tan; perfect to take with you on holiday!

P1010809.JPG

As I said before, the metallic shades are most definitely on the sheer side, but are VERY easy to build up. However, I did find this shade to be quite thick, gloopy and the chunky glitter made the lipstick feel a bit uncomfortable on the lips, in my opinion. Maybe if a lip balm was applied underneath the lipstick, it may make the lipstick feel a bit more comfortable. I will be sure to try this out and report back! Even though this shade has its bad points, it is a stunning colour, I absolutely LOVE the shade!

On 23rd June, my little sister had her prom and she asked me to do her makeup for her. She doesn’t usually wear makeup, so I went for a natural, light-medium coverage foundation and a really pretty, natural eye look with a hint of glitter; finishing the look with a pair of natural eyelashes, which she wasn’t used to wearing, but it really helped pull the look together! Can’t believe how gorgeous she looked, was very proud of her and how well her makeup turned out! ❤
